3 youths beaten to death over cattle thieft suspicion in Gazipur

Three unidentified young men were beaten to death by mob attack on suspicion of cattle theft at Kaliakair upazila in Gazipur.

The incident took place around dawn on Sunday (May 10) in the Bagchala area of Fulbaria Union, where locals intercepted a covered van they suspected of being involved in cattle theft.

According to eyewitnesses, the occupants of the vehicle were then subjected to a mob beating.

The situation escalated as an agitated crowd also set fire to the covered van, which locals alleged was used by the suspected thieves.

The injured were rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared all three dead upon arrival.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police were informed of the deaths at the hospital and teams had been sent to both the hospital and the crime scene.

He added that the identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately and that an investigation was underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police said further legal action would be taken after verifying details and identifying those involved.
