30 Awami League leaders and activists arrested in Dhaka

Police have arrested 30 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations from various locations across the capital. Seven were taken into custody during a flash rally in Banglamotor on Friday, while five were arrested in Gulshan and 12 in Darussalam during preparations for similar rallies. In a separate operation, six more activists were detained in Mirpur.

According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), police nationwide have arrested 1,809 people in the past 24 hours, with 1,281 detained under cases and warrants. Authorities recovered a locally made single-barrel gun, a one-shooter gun, a homemade pistol, four bullets, a rubber cartridge, and four Burmese knives during the raids.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of DMP, confirmed that Ramna and Gulshan police arrested 12 people on Friday, while Darussalam police arrested 12 and Mirpur police six on Thursday.

Darussalam police sources said activists gathered at Technical Mor around 3:45 pm on Thursday to prepare for a flash rally. Police patrols quickly reached the scene with local assistance and arrested 12 individuals, including Al Amin of Natore’s Boro Baraigram Jubo League; Akkas Mia, Awami League member; and Sohag Majhi, Health and Population Secretary of Chandrapara Union Awami League, among others.

In Mirpur, six leaders and activists were arrested, including Juwel Rana, President of Sujanagar Municipal Jubo League; Al Noman Saif, Chattogram AGS Islamia College Chhatra League activist; Md. Julhas, Chattogram District Jubo League activist; Iman Hossain Khan Manik, Chhatra League activist; and Sagar Hossain and Wahidul Islam Sumon, Awami League members. Police said the group had gathered at D-Type Staff Quarters in Paikpara around 2:15 pm on Thursday, allegedly planning anti-government activities and chanting slogans. They have been charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

On Friday, a flash rally in Banglamotor heading toward Hotel Intercontinental led to the arrest of seven participants and one motorcycle. Earlier, five more were detained in Gulshan while preparing for a rally.
