30 injured in Habiganj clash over Tk 185 shop debt
At least 30 people, including women and men, were injured in a clash between two groups over outstanding shop debt in Lakhai upazila, Habiganj.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in Suneshwar village of Muriauk union. The injured were taken to Lakhai Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj District Sadar Modern Hospital.
According to local sources, Rasom Ali purchased goods on credit from the shop of Jalal Mia. When the outstanding money was discussed, an argument broke out between the two. The matter later escalated and spread among relatives and supporters of both sides, leading to tension.
At one stage, both sides clashed with locally made weapons. The violence involved chasing and widespread fighting, leaving at least 30 people injured.
However, both sides have made conflicting claims regarding the amount of money involved. Shopkeeper Jalal Mia claims Rasom Ali owes him Tk 185. On the other hand, Rasom Ali claims he owes only Tk 30, and the dispute arose when an inflated amount was demanded.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Habiganj Sadar Circle Shahidul Haque Munshi said the clash occurred over outstanding shop debt. The situation is currently under control and peaceful.
