31 Indian fishermen detained for illegal intrusion into Bangladesh

The Bangladeshi Navy has detained 31 Indian fishermen and seized two trawlers for illegally entering and fishing in Bangladeshi waters.

The fishermen were detained while the naval ship BNS Shaheed Akhtaruddin was patrolling the deep sea on Tuesday, according to media reports.

The arrestees, most of them hailed from India's West Bengal state, were handed over to Kalapara Police Station in Patuakhali, the navy said in a press conference on Wednesday morning.

About 500 maunds of fish were also seized from the trawlers and the confiscated fish were later distributed to various orphanages in the areas.
