39 candidates elected unopposed in RU hall council polls
A total of 39 candidates have been elected unopposed in the Rajshahi University hall council elections. The university’s election commission confirmed the matter on Sunday.
Among those elected unopposed: three are from Bijoy-24 Hall, one from Mannujan Hall, six from Rokeya Hall, three from Taposi Rabeya Hall, ten from Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, nine from Rahmatunnesa Hall, and seven from July-36 Hall.
Meanwhile, no nomination papers were submitted for three executive member posts—one each in Rokeya, July-36, and Rahmatunnesa halls—leaving the positions vacant.
Professor Dr Md Setaur Rahman, chief returning officer of the RUCSU, hall council and senate student representative elections, said the vacant positions will remain unfilled as there is no provision to appoint members otherwise.
According to the election commission, this year’s RUCSU polls have a total of 28,905 registered voters, including 11,305 female and 17,596 male students. For the central student union (RUCSU), 248 candidates are contesting, along with 58 candidates for the senate. A total of 18 candidates are vying for the vice-president post, 14 for the general secretary post, and 16 for the assistant general secretary post. In addition, 600 candidates are competing in the hall council elections.
