39 litres of foreign liquor seized from bags of 7 passengers of same flight

Customs intelligence officers have seized 39 litres of foreign liquor from the bags of seven passengers who arrived in Dhaka on the same Air India flight from Mumbai of India. The estimated market value of the seized liquor is Tk 7 lakh 70 thousand.

It was informed in a press release on Thursday (September 10) that these liquors were seized by conducting a special drive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday (September 8).

On the basis of secret information, officers of the C-shift of the Airport Circle of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate increased surveillance on the passengers of Air India’s AI2183 flight coming from Mumbai. The flight landed at the airport at 10:43am.

After completing the formalities of immigration, the seven passengers were detained and their bags were searched while collecting baggage and exiting through the green channel. At that time 10 litres of foreign liquor was seized from the bag of Azmal Haque, 7 litres from the bag of Mozammel Haque Bhuiya, 6 litres from the bag of Md Imran and 6 litres from the bag of Babul Mia.

Besides, officers seized 3.5 litres of foreign liquor from the bag of Md Nafiz Sabat, 3.5 litres from the bag of Al Amin Sheikh and 3 litres from the bag of Saddam Hosen.

Customs officers informed that a total of 39 litres of foreign liquor has been seized from the seven passengers, the estimated market value of which is Tk 7 lakh 70 thousand. The incident of seizing a significant quantity of foreign liquor from seven passengers travelling on the same international flight is being viewed with special importance.

Further legal measures are being taken in this incident as per the existing customs law and rules. Officers have informed that a special investigation team will examine the matter to identify whether the incident was organised in a group manner and those involved with it.
