Another 39 Bangladeshis have been deported from the United States. At around 5:30 am today, Friday, they arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special US military flight.

Later, BRAC provided emergency support, including transportation assistance, to the returnees through the airport authorities.

Earlier, on June 8 this year, 42 Bangladeshis were brought back on a chartered flight.

Between March 6 and April 21, at least another 34 Bangladeshis were deported on multiple flights. From the beginning of 2024 to August this year, the number of Bangladeshis deported from the United States exceeded 220.

According to airport sources, unlike many previous cases where returnees had their hands cuffed and legs shackled, those who returned on Friday did not face such treatment.

Among the returnees, 26 are from Noakhali.

Additionally, two each are from Cumilla, Sylhet, Feni, and Lakshmipur, while one each is from Chattogram, Gazipur, Dhaka, Munshiganj, and Narsingdi. Earlier this year, US authorities deported 187 Bangladeshis.

Speaking to the returnees, BRAC’s migration programme reported that at least 34 of the 39 had travelled to Brazil with clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET). They later attempted to enter the United States illegally via Mexico.

Among the remaining five, two travelled directly to the United States while three entered via South Africa. After these 39 individuals applied for residency in the US, the American authorities completed legal procedures and decided to deport them to Bangladesh.
