3-tier security for PM's Feni visit, 2,000 police to be deployed

A three-tier security arrangement is being put in place in Parashuram and Fulgazi centring Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to Feni on October 1. The venues will be divided into red, yellow and white zones. Separate security cards will be required to enter the red and yellow zones. More than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed in the two upazilas on the day of the visit.

A final security coordination meeting was held at the Feni Deputy Commissioner's conference room from 10am to 3pm on Sunday. Senior officials of the Prime Minister's Special Security Force (SSF), Feni-1 constituency MP Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim, Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder and officials of various law enforcement agencies and government offices participated in the meeting.

A source in the administration said maximum security measures are being taken for the Prime Minister at the venues in Parashuram and Fulgazi. Meetings have been held with the relevant departments, various units of law enforcement agencies and the SSF for this purpose.

Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder said more than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed in Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas on the day of the Prime Minister's arrival. Police personnel will perform security duties at all places as required.

Feni Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarkar said there will be a foolproof security ring centring the Prime Minister's visit. Alongside the SSF, members of the police, RAB, BGB, Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will work for security. However, he could not specify the total number of members to be deployed.

According to district administration sources, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Muhuri-Kahua Flood Control and Water Drainage Project, approved by ECNEC at a cost of Tk 1,542 crore, on the banks of the Muhuri river in the Ghatghar area of Parashuram on the morning of October 1. He will later address a public meeting there.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in multiple programmes in Fulgazi. He will plant trees at Khaleda Zia Mohila College and inaugurate solar panels with a capacity of 962.5 kilowatts installed at government offices in Parashuram, Fulgazi and Chhagalnaiya upazilas. He will later rest and offer prayers at the district council dak bungalow in Fulgazi.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to be present at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground between 3pm and 3:20pm. There, he will participate in a joint initiative of three ministries involving family cards, allowances for imams and priests, farmer cards and assistance programmes for poor students and helpless people. He is also scheduled to meet party leaders and activists and representatives of civil society.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim said those allowed to enter the red zone of the venue will be given special security cards. There will be a separate card for the yellow zone. The area outside the red and yellow zones will be considered the white zone, where the general public can enter.

The Deputy Commissioner said, according to the possible schedule, the Prime Minister will travel to Parashuram by road. The return matter has not yet been finalised.

Ancillary preparations centring the Feni visit are also in the final stages. A public meeting venue is being prepared on the banks of the Muhuri river in the Ghatghar area of Parashuram. Preparations are also underway to build a temporary helipad at the Parashuram Pilot High School ground.

Work on building the stage, the place for the inaugural plaque and necessary infrastructure at the public meeting venue is almost complete.
