4 accused produced before Tribunal over Abu Sayed murder
Four individuals have been presented before the International Crimes Tribunal in connection with the 2024 killing of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, during a mass uprising in Rangpur.
On Sunday morning, the accused were brought to the tribunal in a prison van. They have been identified as former Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain, Constable Sujon Chandra Roy, the university’s proctor Shariful Islam, and Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Akash.
The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, is set to begin hearing the case against them.
As per an earlier directive issued on April 9, the tribunal had ordered the appearance of the four accused and instructed the authorities to submit the investigation report by June 15.
According to the prosecution, Abu Sayeed was shot and killed by police during a student-led anti-discrimination protest. The investigation found that former SI Amir Hossain and Constable Sujon Chandra Roy were directly involved in the fatal shooting. The report also indicated that Proctor Shariful Islam and student leader Imran Chowdhury Akash played a role in inciting the incident.
Further proceedings are expected as the tribunal reviews the charges and evidence presented by the prosecution.
