4 arrested including mastermind behind vandalism of Salman Muqtadir's studio: Police

Police have arrested four people, including the mastermind, over the vandalism and land attack at content creator Salman Muqtadir's Brownfish Studio at the ECB Chattar in the capital. Cantonment Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Gias Uddin confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon. Police said the arrested are Shahriar, the mastermind of the attack, Md Mamun of the Bhasantek slum, and Aslam and Munna of the Majumder Mor area.

The Cantonment Police Station OC said the attack occurred following a dispute between New Guinea Properties Limited, the owner of the studio's land, and other landowners in the area. Salman Muqtadir had set up the studio there by renting a floor from New Guinea Properties. The studio was vandalised during the attack.

According to police, New Guinea Properties had built a gate on the land, obstructing others' movement. Being aggrieved by this, people from the opposing side went there.

OC Mohammad Gias Uddin said the mastermind of the attack has been arrested. Operations are ongoing to arrest others involved in the incident.

Salman Muqtadir alleged that people went to the studio in two trucks and carried out the attack and vandalism late Saturday night. In a live broadcast from the Brownfish Studio Facebook page around 1:45am, he said the studio had been attacked and vandalised a short while earlier.

Later, Salman Muqtadir alleged that the main target of the attackers was possibly the building's owner. He also expressed the view that extortion may have been demanded from him.

Meanwhile, speaking to journalists at the Secretariat around noon on Sunday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said there is a dispute between two sides over nearly 35 kathas of land. One side is New Guinea Properties and the other is a retired senior military officer.

According to the Home Minister, the preliminary report indicates that some people from the retired officer's side had gone there at night to try to occupy the land.

It was learned that a case has been filed with Cantonment Police Station by New Guinea Properties over the incident.
