The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has arrested four illegal Bangladeshi agents in Malaysia. They say the four were providing immigration services to migrants in distress.

In a statement on Friday, JIM director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaban said a special operation was conducted at four locations in Kuala Lumpur and three locations in Selangor's Bukit Raja port on Wednesday and Thursday. During this, four Bangladeshis, aged between 22 and 38, were arrested. They were providing immigration services to foreign nationals in Malaysia when they were arrested.

He added in the statement that the illegal agents targeted clients from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and Nepal. Migrants who had overstayed or whose Temporary Work Visit Pass (PLKS) had expired. The agents would charge between 2,000 and 2,500 ringgit (Malaysian currency) from the migrants for the special passes.

JIM said it seized 134 passports from different countries during the operation. They said the seized passports belonged to citizens of Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Indonesia and India.
