Four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in the capital’s Mohakhali area to maintain law and order as the students of the Government Titumir College took to the street demanding upgradation of the college to a university. The paramilitary force in a short message service (SMS) confirmed their deployment at Mohakhali area on Monday (February 3) afternoon. Meanwhile, in a new development, students of Titumir College blocked the railway tracks at the Mahakhali railway crossing in the capital. The blockade took place on Monday afternoon around 3:45pm, when students started marching from in front of Titumir College towards Amtali crossing in Mohakhali. Among them, three hunger strike students were seen being transported in wheelchairs. Over 50 students participated in the march.

সরকারি তিতুমীর কলেজকে স্বতন্ত্র বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উন্নীত করার দাবিতে শিক্ষার্থীরা রাস্তায় নেমে আসায় রাজধানীর মহাখালীতে বর্ডার গার্ড বাংলাদেশের (বিজিবি) চার প্লাটুন সদস্য মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। সোমবার (৩ ফেব্রুয়ারি) বিকেলে সংক্ষিপ্ত বার্তায় (এসএমএস) আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষায় এ ব্যবস্থার কথা জানায় আধাসামরিক বাহিনীটি। সকাল থেকেই ঘটনাস্থলে রয়েছেন আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনীগুলোর পর্যাপ্ত সংখ্যক সদস্যও। এর আগে নতুন করে মহাখালীর আমতলী রেলগেটে রেললাইন অবরোধ করে রেখেছেন তিতুমীর কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীরা। এতে দুটি ট্রেন আটকা পড়ে ঢাকার সঙ্গে সারাদেশের রেল যোগাযোগ বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে। টানা পঞ্চমদিনের মতো সড়ক অবরোধও অব্যাহত রেখেছেন শিক্ষার্থীরা। বিকেল চারটা ৪৫ মিনিটে তিতুমীর কলেজের সামনে থেকে মিছিল নিয়ে রেললাইন অবরোধ করেন অর্ধশতাধিক শিক্ষার্থী। তাদের মধ্যে অনশনরত তিনজন ছাত্রকে হুইলচেয়ারে নিয়ে যেতে দেখা গেছে। আন্দোলনকারী শিক্ষার্থী আলী আহমেদ মাইক্রোফোনে ঘোষণা দেন, ‘প্রধান উপদেষ্টা বা শিক্ষা উপদেষ্টা এখানে এসে তিতুমীর কলেজকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ঘোষণা না করা পর্যন্ত আমরা রেলক্রসিং থেকে নড়ব না’।
