4 burnt in gas explosion in Narayanganj
Four workers sustained burn injuries following a gas leak explosion at a residence in the Gausia area of Narayanganj early Thursday morning. The victims, all employed at a local textile mill, were rescued and transported to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The injured have been identified as Kamrul Hawlader (30), Atikur Rahman (25), Md. Afridi (24), and Md. Habibur Rahman Sohag (32). According to hospital sources, all four sustained minor burns and are currently out of danger.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the incident. He reported that Kamrul suffered burns on 3.5% of his body, Atikur on 5%, Sohag on 1.5%, and Afridi on 8%. All are under observation at the emergency unit and are expected to recover without complications.
Md. Aslam, a neighbor who assisted in transporting the victims to the hospital, said the explosion occurred when one of the workers attempted to light a match to prepare breakfast. "All four victims lived in the same room. As soon as the match was struck, the gas that had leaked into the room ignited, causing a sudden explosion," he said.
Authorities are investigating the source of the leak, and local residents have been urged to remain cautious with gas appliances to prevent similar incidents.
