4 crore eggs imported to regulate prices
The government has granted permission to import four crore eggs. A decision has been made to regulate the price of eggs. Four institutions have received approval for import. Officials from the Ministry of Commerce said the institutions have been instructed to import eggs into the country as quickly as possible.
The four institutions are Meem Enterprises, Prime Energy Importers and Suppliers, Tiger Trading and Arnav Trading Limited.
Regarding the issue, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, "Each of the four institutions will import one crore eggs. Our goal is to bring down the price of eggs in the local market. That's why we have started allowing imports. We will continue this as long as the price of eggs does not decrease." The Ministry of Commerce granted permission for the import of eggs on Sunday.
Earlier, the minister had mentioned that import permission would be granted if the price of eggs in the market does not decrease.
Meanwhile, four conditions have been given in importing eggs. The first condition is that eggs must be imported from countries free of Avian Influenza or Bird Flu. Secondly, for each shipment of imported eggs, a certificate must be submitted from the competent authority of the exporting country stating that the eggs are free from Avian Influenza or Bird Flu viruses and harmful bacteria.
Furthermore, two additional conditions have been mentioned in the letter to the importing institutions. Importing institutions are not allowed to import prohibited items, and they must comply with all other government regulations and rules.
Commerce Secretary Tapon Kanti Ghosh has stated that the exact timing for egg imports has not been specified for the four institutions. However, they have been instructed to import eggs as quickly as possible. Since it may take some time to arrange loan documents for imports, they are urged to expedite the process.
The price of imported eggs has been fixed based on the current market rate.
The commerce secretary said since the market price for eggs is set at Tk 12 per piece, imported eggs cannot be sold for more than 12 taka each. This ensures that the imported eggs remain competitively priced in the market.
