4 die after consuming homemade alcohol in Rajshahi
Four people have died after consuming homemade alcohol in the Mohonpur upazila of Rajshahi, while three others are being treated at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for alcohol-related illness.
According to police and family sources, the deaths occurred between the morning of Wednesday (January 8) and the night of Thursday (January 9).
Two of the deceased died outside the hospital, while the other two passed away during treatment. In connection with the incident, Mohonpur police have arrested two individuals suspected of being involved in the drug trade. They are Mukul (39), son of Mahir from Motihar village, and Johnny (42), son of Gofur from Dhopaghata village.
The deceased are Montaz Ali (42) from Durgoapur village, Tutul (28), son of Moyez Mondol, Ekdil (50) from Mongla, and Jewel (25) from Karisha village.
Local sources report that the alcohol was purchased from a known drug dealer, Hannan, in the village of Dhorasa, and consumed at Montaz’s house by seven people. Shortly after drinking, the incident occurred.
Abdul Hannan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohonpur police station, confirmed the matter. He said, "Two drug dealers have been arrested in a drug-related case and sent to jail. Police operations against drug dealers are ongoing."
