4 DU students injured after jumping from halls by earthquake panic

Four students at Dhaka University (DU) sustained injuries after jumping from buildings by panic caused by a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck various parts of the country.

The incident took place after at 10am on Friday (November 21).

The epicenter was in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, about 13 km from Dhaka.

The injured include Abdullah Al Tanvir, an Economics student from Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall; Tanzir Hossain, a Journalism student from the same hall; Tanvir Bari Hamim of Kobi Jasim Uddin Hall; and one student from Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, who was seriously injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Several old buildings suffered structural damage. Cracks and falling plaster were reported in Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, Kobi Jasim Uddin Hall, Sir A F Rahman Hall, Khandakar Mokarram Hall, Sheikh Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall, and Shamsun Nahar Hall. Furniture in Room 105 of Sir A F Rahman Hall also displaced, though no injuries were reported there.

The earthquake, which struck at 10:38am with its epicenter at Madhabdi in Narsingdi—13 km from Dhaka—was felt across the capital and other regions, causing building damage and panic among residents.
