4 killed, 14 injured as bus hits truck on Dhaka-Mawa expressway

Four people were killed and 14 others injured early Saturday when a bus crashed into a truck on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj.

The deceased were identified as Zillur Rahman, 65, son of Bazlur Rahman; Dr Jalal, 65, son of Insan Ali; Abdul Halim, 55; and Hasib, 32, son of Md Bappi.

The accident took place near the midpoint between Singpara-Nauapara and Hasara Bridge-2 when a Dhaka-bound 'Hamdan Express' bus from Jashore rear-ended a truck, said Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Assistant Director of the Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.

After the collision, both vehicles veered out of control and slammed into the railing of the expressway’s median strip.

The injured were rushed to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors later pronounced two more people dead.
