4 killed, 15 injured in deadly road crash in Chattogram’s Lohagara

At least four people, including a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member, were killed and 15 others injured in a devastating road accident on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Lohagara upazila on Saturday afternoon (May 9).

The accident took place in the Chunati Bonpukur area in front of Four Season Hotel when two passenger buses of Marsa Paribahan reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake each other and plunged into a roadside ditch before crashing into trees.

The deceased were identified as Rehena Akter, wife of Badiul Alam of Patiya upazila; Naimul Islam Jihan, son of Chan Ali of Gopalpur area in Jhenaidah Sadar; Naimul Islam, son of Anwar Hossain from the same area; and Monir Ahmed of Bhola district.

According to eyewitnesses, one passenger died on the spot, while three others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to hospital.

The injured were admitted to local hospitals and nearby medical centres for treatment. The crash also caused temporary disruption to traffic movement on the busy Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.

Law enforcement personnel and highway police rushed to the scene after the incident.

Confirming the matter, Dohazari Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Salauddin Chowdhury said the bodies would be handed over to families following legal procedures.

He added that angry locals and passengers later blocked the movement of all Marsa Paribahan buses on the highway following the deadly accident.
