4 killed as ambulance, 2 buses catch fire in Savar
A crash between an ambulance and a passenger bus on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway triggered a fire involving three vehicles, resulting in four fatalities. Several others were injured, according to the Fire Service.
The incident took place around 2:00 am on Thursday (January 9) in the Police Town area of the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Rakibul Hasan said, "A passenger bus hit the ambulance from behind, causing it to catch fire. The bus that collided with the ambulance and a nearby Shyamoli Paribahan bus also caught fire. After receiving the alarm, two Fire Service units quickly arrived at the scene and managed to control the fire after approximately an hour and a half, around 3:15 am."
He also said, "Four bodies were recovered from the scene, and their identities have not been confirmed yet."
Savar Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sawgatul Islam said, "The burnt vehicles have been cleared from the road. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the morgue for autopsy, and efforts are being made to identify them. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire."
