4 killed as covered van crashes into auto-rickshaw in Gazipur

Four people died in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-powered auto rickshaw in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Friday afternoon.

The accident took place around noon on the Mawna-Kaliakair regional road near Borchala area of Kaliakair. According to Abdul Mannan, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliakair police station, the victims belonged to the same family.

Eyewitnesses and police said the auto rickshaw, carrying five passengers from Mawna to Kaliakair, collided head-on with a fast-moving covered van coming from the opposite direction. The auto rickshaw was severely damaged in the crash.

Two passengers died instantly at the scene. Another two, including a seriously injured woman, were taken to a hospital near Mawna Chowrasta, where doctors declared them dead. The victims were identified as residents of Ishwargat, Dhunot upazila, Bogura district.

The police are conducting an investigation and have started legal proceedings related to the accident.
