4 killed in clashes between police, quota activists in Uttara
At least four people were killed in clashes between police and activists of quota reform movement at Uttara-Azampur area in the capital on Thursday (July 18).
The complete shutdown program announced by the anti-quota activists is being enforced across the country amid sporadic clashes between police and the protesters.
According to witnesses, police attacked agitating students when the latter tried to block the road in the Uttara-Ajampur area. Four people, including students and a pedestrian, were killed in police firing.
The identity of the victims was not immediately known. Their bodies have been kept in Kuwait Maitri Hospital, said the quota activists.
Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of Kuwait Maitri Hospital, also confirmed the news. He said, “More than 50 wounded quota reform activists and were brought to the hospital. Four of them have been declared dead. There were police also among the injured.”
Meanwhile, sources from Uttara’s Adhunik Medical Hospital said about 500 people injured in the clashes in Uttara have been treated at the hospital.
