In the aftermath of violent clashes during a National Citizens’ Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj, four murder cases have been filed, naming more than 6,000 unidentified individuals as accused. The violence left five people dead—four on the day of the incident and another who succumbed to injuries later.

According to Gopalganj Sadar Police, each case includes between 1,400 and 1,500 unidentified activists, primarily associated with the ruling Awami League and its affiliated organizations. Police officials have confirmed that a fifth murder case is expected to be filed soon.

The violence broke out on Wednesday afternoon following an NCP rally at the municipal park. As the party’s motorcade moved toward Madaripur, it came under attack near SK Salehia Madrasa. The attackers, allegedly Awami League supporters and miscreants, used traditional weapons and firearms. Law enforcement personnel attempting to intervene were also reportedly targeted.

Seventeen-year-old Ramzan Kazi was fatally shot in the attack. Sub-Inspector Aiyub Hossain filed a case over his death.

Another victim, Dipta Saha (27), was killed near Milan Pharmacy by the college mosque. SI Shamim Hossain filed the case, stating that shots were fired at security personnel and civilians during the incident.

Sohel Rana Molla (30) was reportedly shot near the Launch Ghat area. SI Abul Kalam Azad filed a murder case in connection with his death. Seventeen-year-old Imon Talukder was also shot dead near the old Sonali Bank building; a fourth murder case was filed by SI Sheikh Mizanur Rahman.

In addition, rickshaw puller Ramzan Munshi (32), who sustained injuries during the clash, died Thursday night while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police say legal proceedings for this case are underway.

Bodies of four victims have yet to undergo inquest or post-mortem examinations, but law enforcement authorities have stated that these procedures will be conducted. However, the body of Dipta Saha has already been cremated, raising uncertainty over further forensic action in his case.

Investigations are ongoing, and police say further arrests and charges may follow as evidence is reviewed.
