Four members of a family, including a woman and a child, sustained critical burn injuries following an air conditioner explosion at their residence in capital's Jatrabari.

The incident took place around 1:30am in the 7th floor of a building near Lichubagan Mosque in Dhalpur of Jatrabari on (September 19).

The victims—Md. Tuhin Hossain, 38, his wife Iba Akhter, 30, and their two sons, Tanvir, 9, and Towhid, 7,—are currently receiving treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Doctors have described their condition as critical.

According to witnesses, the family was asleep when the explosion occurred. The blast ignited a fire that engulfed the home, severely burning all four members. Neighbouring tenants managed to douse the flames, rescue the victims, and rushed them to the burn institute for medical care.

Farzana Akhter, Iba’s sister, confirmed that the family had been living in the apartment for some time. She mentioned that the incident happened while they were asleep, and it was the sudden explosion of the air conditioner that caused the fire.

Tuhin Hossain works at a mobile servicing shop in Motaleb Plaza, while Iba is a housewife. The family is originally from Madaripur Sadar Upazila.
