4 platoons of BGB deployed in Gopalganj amid rising tensions
Gopalganj is currently witnessing heightened tension surrounding a program organized by the National Citizens' Party (NCP). To maintain law and order, four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed alongside the army and police forces.
Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer of the BGB, confirmed the deployment on Wednesday.
Immediately after the NCP rally concluded, a group of individuals attempted to attack party leaders and activists. They surrounded NCP members and police vehicles from multiple directions. In response, police and army personnel tried to control the situation by deploying sound grenades and firing blank shots. Subsequently, the NCP leaders and activists diverted their vehicles and left the scene, reportedly taking refuge at the Gopalganj Circuit House.
The rally had commenced after 2 PM on an open stage at the municipal park. However, before the event began, around 1:30 PM, there was an attack on the rally stage in the municipal park area of Gopalganj town.
