4 Secretariat officials, employees in police custody
Four officials and staff members have been taken into police custody amid the ongoing agitation demanding 20 percent secretariat allowance for employees working in the Secretariat.
Police took them into custody at 3:50 pm on Thursday (December 11).
Among those taken into custody are Badiul Kabir, president of the Joint Council of Personal Officers and Officers-Employees of the Ministry of Public Administration, Shahin Golam Rabbani, administrative officer and vice-president of the Ministry of Health, Nizamuddin, an employee of the Ministry of Health, and another unidentified person.
Earlier yesterday, employees protesting demanding 20 percent secretariat allowance blocked Financial Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed in an unprecedented manner. The protesters were assured that a government order (GO) would be issued at 3pm today in accordance with their demands. In this continuation, the employees gathered at Badamtala of the Secretariat in the afternoon.
Police have tightened security measures at the secretariat, especially at the Ministry of Finance and Badamtala areas, in response to the incident.
