The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have detained 40 people during a special operation at Geneva Camp in Mohammadpur, targeting drug traffickers, arms suppliers, and individuals storing petrol bombs.

The operation, which began at 4:00pm on Saturday and continued until early Sunday morning, resulted in the seizure of 8 petrol bombs, 2 Molotov cocktails, 6 samurai swords, 5 helmets, 3 knives, 11 stolen mobile phones, and 500 grams of heroin.

Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Ibne Mizan told reporters at a briefing at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road that Geneva Camp is a well-known hotspot for criminal activity. “We conduct regular operations here to curb drug trafficking and maintain law and order,” he said.

The raid involved 120 police personnel and focused on drug dealers, sellers, arms suppliers, and individuals storing explosives. “Many of those arrested were associates of notorious traffickers Bunia Sohel, Picchi Raja, and Chua Selim. Interrogations have revealed several other names, and further arrests will follow,” DC Mizan added.

The DMP Bomb Disposal Unit defused the petrol bombs recovered during the operation. DC Mizan emphasized that while the police can control drug activity, complete eradication is challenging. “Through continuous operations, we aim to manage drug trafficking and keep the community safe,” he said.

He also noted that crime in Mohammadpur has surged since August 5, with many previously absent offenders returning. “Over the past six to seven months, more than 3,000 criminals have been brought under the law. Our operations are ongoing, and we hope to further improve the situation,” DC Mizan said.

The DMP remains committed to regular operations in Geneva Camp to curb criminal activity and ensure public safety.
