4,000 tonnes of diesel arrive from India

Around 4,000 metric tonnes, or 4.7 million litres, of diesel imported from India have arrived at the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Dinajpur through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The shipment is the 72nd consignment delivered through the pipeline, according to the port officials.

The transfer operation began at 9am on Sunday and was completed on Tuesday afternoon (September 15), said Md Robiul, operations manager of the Parbatipur rail depot.

Under a bilateral agreement signed in 2018, Bangladesh and India agreed to import around 2 million tonnes of diesel from India over 15 years. Since the 131-kilometre pipeline was inaugurated in March 2023, Bangladesh has imported 330,087 tonnes of diesel through the facility.

The latest consignment will be distributed in roughly equal quantities among three state-owned fuel companies—Padma Oil, Meghna Petroleum and Jamuna Oil.

The Bangladesh section of the pipeline stretches 126.57 kilometres through parts of Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Dinajpur before reaching the Parbatipur terminal.
