Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam today said at least 42 members of the police force were killed and scores injured in clashes during the recent mass student movement. Three of the dead are of inspector rank and two are Rab members, he said while talking to reporters at the Central Police Hospital in Dhaka. Over 500 took treatment at the hospital, he said, adding that of them, 27 are still undergoing treatment. "We are providing full support to the injured," the IGP said.

সাম্প্রতিক আন্দোলনে-সহিংসতায় ৪২ জন পুলিশ সদস্য নিহত হয়েছেন। এর মধ্যে পরিদর্শক তিনজন ও দুজন র‍্যাব সদস্য রয়েছেন বলে জানিয়েছেন পুলিশ মহাপরিদর্শক (আইজি) মো. ময়নুল ইসলাম। আজ রোববার (১১ আগস্ট) দুপুরে রাজারবাগ পুলিশ হাসপাতালে সাংবাদিকদের তিনি এ কথা বলেন। আইজিপি বলেন, “নিহত ছাড়াও আহত অসংখ্য। শুধু রাজারবাগ পুলিশ হাসপাতালেই ৫০৭ জন চিকিৎসা নিয়েছেন। বেশি আহত এমন রয়েছেন ২৭ জন। তাঁদের মধ্যে আইসিইউতে আছেন ২ জন। যাঁরা আহত হয়েছেন, তাঁদের আমরা ফুল সাপোর্ট দিচ্ছি।” ট্রাফিক ব্যবস্থাপনা পুলিশের ফিরে আসার বিষয়ে তিনি আইজিপি ময়নুল ইসলাম বলেন, “আমরা ভিআইপি রোডে ইতিমধ্যে ট্রাফিক সদস্যদের ফিরিয়ে আনার ব্যবস্থা করেছি। ইতিমধ্যে ইন্টারকন্টিনেন্টাল থেকে জাহাঙ্গীর গেট পর্যন্ত বেশি করে ফোর্স দিয়ে চালু করেছি।”
