42 parties fail to win any seats in election
Among the 59 registered political parties, 51 participated in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Analysis of the results shows that candidates from 42 of the 51 participating parties failed to secure victory. Only candidates from nine parties have managed to ensure representation in parliament.
Although voting was held in 299 constituencies, results have been published for 297 so far. According to the published results, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has won 209 seats. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has won 68 seats. The National Citizen Party (NCP) has secured six seats.
Additionally, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Ganadhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Ganashonghati Andolan and Khilafat Majlish have each won one seat. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlish has won two seats.
Election Commission Secretariat Secretary Akhtar Ahmed has confirmed this information. He informed that due to court injunctions, results for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies cannot be published in the gazette. Additionally, voting in the Sherpur-3 constituency will be held later due to the death of a candidate.
Among the 51 participating parties, 42 failed to win any seats. Many parties, despite fielding candidates in over a hundred constituencies, ultimately returned empty-handed. As a result, parliamentary representation has been limited to a handful of parties.
According to political analysts, smaller and newer parties failed to achieve desired results due to polarisation around major parties, alliance-based elections and strategic voting. The electoral contest remained largely confined to a few major parties.
