42,761 polling centres finalised across 300 constituencies
The Election Commission (EC) has finalised a total of 42,761 polling centres across 300 constituencies for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed, shared the information while briefing reporters in front of his office at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday.
“We have finalised the list of polling centres today. Across 64 districts and 300 constituencies, there will be 42,761 centres in total,” he said. “In terms of polling booths, 115,137 will be allocated for men and 129,602 for women — making a total of 244,649 booths.”
Akhtar Ahmed further mentioned that 14 temporary polling centres have been designated, accommodating around 12,000 booths. On average, each booth will serve about 3,000 voters, considered the ‘catchment area’. Adjustments may be made later if necessary.
According to the EC’s draft list, the number of proposed polling centres was 42,618, compared to 42,148 in the 12th parliamentary election.
Although the number of centres has increased, the total number of booths has decreased to 244,046 from 261,564 in the previous election.
