464 arrested, 52 cases filed in 24-hour police drive across Dhaka
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 464 people and filed 52 cases during a 24-hour crime crackdown across the capital, targeting drugs, illegal weapons and other offences, police said Monday (August 17).
According to a statement issued by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, the arrests were made during raids conducted by police units across different areas of the city. Weapons, narcotics and other items were also seized during the operations.
The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 123 people detained. The Tejgaon division arrested 58, followed by Uttara with 54, Wari with 53, Motijheel with 48, Gulshan with 44, Lalbagh with 41 and Ramna with 35. The Detective Branch arrested eight people.
Police also seized a range of firearms and other weapons, including a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, three rounds of ammunition and a foreign-made revolver. Two samurai swords, a knife and a partial blade were also recovered.
The anti-drug operations yielded 86.59 kilograms of cannabis, 3,763 yaba tablets and 3.35 grams of heroin. Police also seized one bottle of foreign liquor and three bottles of locally produced alcohol.
Among other recovered items were 10 mobile phones, four steel taps and five plastic taps allegedly removed from train toilets, as well as 21.2 litres of chemicals used in pharmaceutical production.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, the DMP said, adding that similar operations will continue across the capital as part of its efforts to curb crime.
