488 arrested in DMP drives in capital, arms and drugs recovered

During regular drives across various areas of the capital over the past 24 hours, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 488 individuals. Police also filed 55 cases in connection with various incidents.

According to DMP, among those arrested, 30 were from Ramna division, 33 from Lalbagh, 47 from Wari, 61 from Motijheel, 59 from Tejgaon, 153 from Mirpur, 49 from Gulshan and 41 from Uttara division. Additionally, Detective Branch police arrested 10 individuals and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested five.

During the drives, various police units recovered a large quantity of arms and drugs. The seizures included two foreign pistols, two magazines and 12 rounds of bullets. Additionally, one switchgear, two handcuffs, a toy pistol, an electric tracker and two walkie-talkies were recovered.

In anti-narcotics operations, 11 kg of cannabis and 16,222 yaba pills were seized. A weighing machine, 19 mobile phones, 28 SIM cards from various mobile operators and Tk 1,400 in cash were also recovered. One victim was also rescued during the drives, said DMP.

The drives were conducted as part of regular operations to curb crime and maintain law and order in various police station areas of the capital. Alongside arrests, evidence and drugs linked to various crimes were also seized.

DMP said legal action is underway against those arrested at the respective police stations. The recovered arms, drugs and other evidence have also been seized for further proceedings under the law.
