4-year-old child drowns in Netrokona pond

A four-year-old girl drowned in a pond in Kendua upazila of Netrokona on Thursday.

The deceased, Labiba Islam Mossafa, was a resident of Shalpattenguri village under Kandiura union.

According to police and locals, the incident occurred when Labiba followed her father, Abdul Latif, to the edge of an old pond situated in front of their home. Latif later left the spot and walked towards another nearby pond, assuming his daughter had returned home.

"When I returned, I saw her floating in the old pond," Latif recounted.

Realising what had occured, Latif and nearby residents immediately rescued Labiba and rushed her to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead.

Md Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station, confirmed the incident. "There was no allegation of foul play. The body was handed over to the family upon request. A case of unnatural death has been registered," he said.
