5 arrested from Awami League procession in capital
Police have arrested five people from an Awami League procession in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
They were arrested in front of the IDB building in Agargaon area on Thursday morning (March 26).
The arrested people are Md. Hasan Ali, Jisan Ahmed, Md. Raisul Islam Manik, Md. Faruk Islam and Ashiq Mohammad. Among them, Hasan Ali is an employee of the Bangladesh Water Development Board.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station OC Monirul Islam said that a group of 15-20 people took out a procession from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission building area around 9am on the occasion of Independence Day. Later, when they reached in front of the IDB building, the police dispersed them and arrested five people.
Police said that a case has been filed against the detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act and they have been sent to court.
It is initially known that the procession was organized by leaders and activists of Bangladesh Awami League.
