5 Bangladeshis detained for attempting illegal entry into India

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained five Bangladeshi nationals on Tuesday (July 1) while they were attempting to illegally cross into India through the Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah.

According to a press release issued around 6:30pm by Munshi Imdadur Rahman, assistant director and acting quartermaster of the 58th BGB Battalion, the detainees were apprehended during a routine border patrol in the Baghadanga and Srinathpur border areas of Maheshpur Upazila.

The detained individuals have been identified as Mostafa Hossain, 24, hailed from Dahitla village in Jashore Sadar Upazila; Kasmir Mondal, 40, from Panchkatia village in Monirampur Upazila; Abdul Hakim, 39, and Akher Ali Gazi, 43, from Shyamkur village in Maheshpur Upazila; and Chandan Mondal, 22, from Goalchamot village in Faridpur Sadar Upazila.

Following their detention, the individuals were handed over to Maheshpur Police Station.

Confirming this, Maheshpur Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam, said, "A case will be filed against them under the Passport Act, and they will be presented before the court after legal proceedings are initiated."
