5 bodies recovered in separate incidents across Dhaka

Police have recovered the bodies of five people, including a woman, from separate locations in the capital. The bodies have been sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. They were recovered between Saturday morning and afternoon, September 12.

Among the five, the body of a lawyer named Anwar Hossain was recovered in Lalbagh, the bodies of three unidentified men were recovered in Shahbagh, and the dismembered body parts of a woman were recovered in Adabor.

It has been learned that around 10am, police recovered the half-decomposed body of a lawyer named Muhammad Anwar Hossain from a rented flat on the second floor of house No. 10/1 in Baubazar Lane No. 3 of Shaheednagar in Old Dhaka's Lalbagh. Police officials believe he may have died two to three days earlier due to an electrical short circuit or stroke. However, police said the actual cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem.

The house owner, Monir Hossain, said he rented a room to Anwar this month for Tk 4,000. He used to live in the room alone.

Police recovered a driving licence from his possession. The address on it mentions '312 Jagannath Saha Road'. Police are trying to contact his relatives.

The deceased, Anwar, was a lawyer at the Judge Court. He had a chamber in room No. 214 on the first floor of the Dhaka Bar Association Annexe Building. However, he was irregular. Lalbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Jamil Hossain said Anwar Hossain was an advocate at the Judge Court. He lived in that house as a bachelor. His driving licence has been found. Efforts are underway to contact his family after verifying it.

Meanwhile, the bodies of three unidentified men were recovered in separate incidents from the Shahbagh Police Station area.

Police said around 11:50am on Saturday, Shahbagh police recovered the bodies of two people from the footpath of the main gate of the National Eidgah and the Kadam Fountain intersection. One of them was estimated to be around 65 years old and the other around 45. Their identities could not be immediately ascertained. Police said they were vagrants.

Acting on information from passers-by, SI Taufiq Hasan of Shahbagh Police Station went to the scene and recovered their bodies. The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue around 12:30pm.

Additionally, around noon on Saturday, the body of an unidentified man (70) was recovered from beside the waiting room of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police said the deceased was also a vagrant.

DMCH ward master Aiyub Ali saw the man lying in front of the waiting room. He later rescued him and took him to the emergency department. The doctor on duty declared him dead around 3:15pm after examination. The body was later kept in the morgue for post-mortem.

Separately, on Saturday afternoon, the dismembered body parts of a woman were recovered from the Adabor area of the capital. The dismembered head, two hands and the body with severed legs were recovered from a canal in the Hakkar Mor area of Adabor No. 10.

Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Islam said the dismembered body parts were recovered from the scene after receiving information from locals, and they were stuffed in a bag. The woman's body was wearing a maroon-coloured top and olive-coloured trousers. The hands, severed with the sleeves of the top, and the severed head were packed in a black bag and dumped in the canal by unknown persons. However, the woman's legs have not yet been recovered.

The identity of the deceased woman could not be immediately ascertained either. Detailed information on why and by whom she was killed has not yet been obtained. Police officer Zahidul Islam also said work is underway to identify those involved in the incident and uncover the mystery behind the murder. A CID forensic team is also working to identify the deceased woman.
