5 female students burnt after being electrocuted on madrasa roof

Five child students have been burnt after being electrocuted on the roof of a residential madrasa in Fatullah of Narayanganj. They have been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in a seriously burnt condition. The doctors have informed that the condition of all five is serious.

This accident occurred at Mahela Khatun Girls Madrasa of Kashipur Hajipara of Fatullah around 4:30pm on Saturday (September 26).

The burnt students are Jidni, 14, of class six, Lamia Akter Shapla, 13, of class four, Sumaiya Akter, 13, of class seven, Asia Akter Afroza, 12, of class three and Atiya, 11, of class four. All of them are residential female students of that madrasa.

Cashier of the madrasa Md Yusuf Ali informed that five students went to the roof of the three-storey madrasa building to play in the afternoon. After some time they heard a sound. Later going to the roof they found the students in a scorched by fire condition. After rescuing them from there they were first taken to a local hospital. Later they were sent from there to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

Yusuf Ali said there are high-power electric wires over the roof of the madrasa building. They assume that the students may have been electrocuted somehow by coming into contact with those wires.

The burnt students have informed that they had gone to the roof to play in the afternoon. Fire suddenly caught their bodies during playing. However they could not say anything on the matter of how the fire broke out.

Resident Surgeon of the emergency department of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Sultan Mahmud informed that the condition of all five children is serious. They are being given treatment at the emergency department.
