5 killed after pickup crashes on parked covered-van in Ctg

Five people were killed early this morning (August 18) when a pickup van lost control and crashed into a parked covered van in the City Gate area of Chattogram.

The accident took place around 4:45am when the pickup, heading from Sitakunda to Fishery Ghat to collect fish, collided with the rear of the stationary covered van.

The deceased have been identified as Akash Das, 26, Ajit Das, 24, Roni Das, 25, Jewel Das, 18, and Md. Sohag, 32. All are hailed from Sitakunda.

Among the deceased, three died at the scene, while two others succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Four additional passengers, injured in the crash, are being treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Md. Sajjad, sub-inspector (SI) of Akbar Shah Police Station, said, "Following a call to the national emergency number 999, police and fire services promptly arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations."

"The bodies have been taken into police custody, and further legal action will be taken following family complaints," he added.
