5 killed as bus falls into canal in Lakshmipur

At least five people were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a canal in Lakshmipur's Sadar Upazila on Saturday morning (September 6).

The accident took place around 8:30am in front of Kafil Uddin Degree College when the Ananda Paribahan bus, traveling from Noakhali to Lakshmipur, lost control and fell into the canal.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Abdul Ahad, Abdul Majed, and Humayun Rashid. However, the identities of the other two victims are yet to be confirmed.

Passengers were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, where five later died during treatment.

Rescue operations were conducted by police, army, and fire service personnel, who also recovered the bus from the canal.

Md. Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandraganj Highway Police, confirmed the incident.

He said, "The driver and helper are still missing. An investigations into this matter is underway."
