5 killed at Sadarghat as one launch hits another
Five passengers of a launch including a woman and a child were killed at Sadarghat in the capital today after another launch hit the anchored one.
Among the deceased, there were three men, one woman, and one child, said Abul Kalam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat Naval Police station.
He said the incident took place in front of pontoon No-11 of Sadarghat on Thursday (April 11) afternoon.
Dhaka River Port (Sadarghat) Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Zainal Abedin told the media that five people were killed in the Sadarghat incident. The bodies of the deceased are kept at Mitford Hospital. An investigation committee will be formed to investigate the incident.
Anwarul Islam Dolan, media cell officer at the fire service headquarters, said that two launches named MV Tashrif-4 and MV Pubali-1 were tied to the pontoon with ropes. Five passengers were seriously injured while boarding the launch when the rope of MV Tashrif-4 was torn as another launch named Farhan tried to make way between the two launches. Sadarghat Fire Station ambulance rushed them to Mitford Hospital.
