5 killed in separate road accidents in Cumilla
Five people were killed in separate road accidents on the Cumilla section of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The accidents occurred in different parts of the district on Wednesday morning (April 1).
According to police and local sources, two passengers of a CNG-powered autorickshaw were killed when an unidentified vehicle hit them in the Barpara area of Daudkandi upazila. The deceased were Abdul Barek, 53, of Sarkarpur village in Gouripur area and Mostafa, 52, of the same village.
Earlier in the morning, two drivers were killed when another truck hit the back of a moving truck in the Nimsar Bazar area of Burichang upazila. The deceased were Jahirul Islam Moin, 27, of Lalpur village in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali and Sohel Rana, 35, of Keshabpur area in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
In addition, a ninth-grade student was killed when he was hit by a lorry while crossing the road in the Katherpul area of Chandina upazila. His name is Taim, he is a student of Boro Gobindapur High School.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station Iqbal Bahar Majumder and OC of Mainamati Highway Police Station Abdul Momin said that these accidents occurred and five people were killed on Wednesday morning. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives.
Police said that the vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and taken into custody and necessary legal action is being taken in this regard.
