5 May Hefajat rally: Complaint lodged with ICT against Hasina, 49 others
A complaint has been lodged with the International Crimes Tribunal against 50 people including ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina for their involvement in crimes against humanity during the Hefajat rally in Dhaka’s Shapla Chattar.
Azizul Haque Islamabadi on behalf of Hefazat-e-Islam leaders Junaiyed Al Habib and Maulana Mamunul Haque lodged the complaint on Wednesday.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former minister Rashed Khan Menon, ex-Dhaka South city Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), former minister Hasan Mahmud, former MP Hazi Salim, former adviser to then PM Salman F Rahman, former MP Shamim Osman, former IGP Shahidul Haque and former deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Biplab Kumar Sarkar were among the accused.
Joint general secretary of Hefajate-Islam Mamunul Haque said during the Hefajat rally brutal mass killings were carried out after driving out the media personnel on May 5, 2013.
Families of many deceased did not even get the bodies of their loved ones, he said in the complaint.
Human rights organisation Odhikar published identities of 61 people who were killed at the rally on August 19 on social networking site Facebook.
