5 more prosecutors appointed to ICT

Five more prosecutors were appointed to the International Crimes Tribunal. They are- Supreme Court lawyers SM Moeenul Karim, Md Nure Ershad Siddique, Shaikh Mahdi, Tarek Abdullah and forensic expert Tanveer Hasan Joha.

Among them, Karim and Siddique will enjoy the position and benefits of deputy attorney general and the other three of assistant attorney general.

The Solicitor Wing of the Law Ministry issued a notice in this regard on Thursday.

It stated that the counsels were appointed as per section 7 (1) of the International Crimes Tribunal Act 1973 to run the cases in the tribunal until further notice.

The order will be effective immediately, the notice added.

With the new appointments, the ICT gets a total of 11 legal counsels, including the chief prosecutor.

Earlier on September 5, the government appointed chief prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam along with four other prosecutors. They are--Md Mizanul Islam, Gazi Monawar Hussain Tamim, BM Sultan Mahmud and Abdullah Al Noman.

Prosecutor Md Saimum Reza Talukdar was appointed on September 7.
