5 youths 'rape' their female friend, 3 held

Five youths have reportedly been gang-raped their female friend after drinking alcohol together in Bogura. The police have arrested three of the accused in the incident.

The incident took place on Sunday (May 17) night in the Phulbari Dakshinpara area of the city. The police conducted raids at various places and arrested them after the victim filed a case against the accused on Monday (May 18) morning, the next day of the incident.

The arrestee are - Md. Kawsar,19, son of Raihan of Phulbari Dakshin Hajipara, Badhan Paikar, 19, son of the deceased Hatem Ali Paikar of Phulbari Dakshinpara, and Md. Rocky, 19, son of Golam Rabbani of Uttar Katnarpara area.

According to the police and the case report, the accused had previous acquaintance and friendship with the victim, who is from Shibganj Upazila. The young woman went to a shop called 'Lak Zone' on the 7th level of the Police Plaza in the city around 8 pm on Sunday. Kawsar, Badhan, Sadiq and another person were already there. They all planned to drink alcohol. Later, they collected alcohol from a hotel. Then, around 10:15 pm, they went to an under-construction house on the side of the crematorium ghat road adjacent to the Eidgah ground in Fulbari Dakshinpara in the city. Roni joined them there.

At one stage of drinking alcohol, the accused took turns raping the young woman. Later, while Badhan was taking her out of there, he reached the Big Bazar area of Shibati. Then the young woman screamed for help from passersby. At that time, Badhan ran away. On receiving the information, the police of Fulbari outpost came and rescued the victim and arranged for treatment.

In this regard, Bogura Sadar Police Station OC Ibrahim Ali said that the young woman, who was the victim of rape, filed a case against five people on Monday morning. After the incident, three accused were arrested from various places. They were sent to jail through the court. A drive is underway to arrest the rest. The young woman has been sent to the hospital for a medical examination.
