500 individuals to be appointed as 'police assistants': DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali announced that 500 individuals will be appointed as ‘police assistants’ to enhance security for the residents of the capital.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (March 8), at the DMP Media Center in Minto Road, the Commissioner explained that these individuals, experienced in working in shopping malls and private security roles across Dhaka, will be appointed for a one-month period.
"They will function similarly to police officers and be granted the authority to arrest criminals," he said.
The appointed police assistants will be given badges by the DMP, enabling them to exercise the same powers as the police. Additionally, if any police assistant is attacked while attempting an arrest, the incident will be treated as a "police assault," and a case will be filed accordingly.
