503 arrested in Dhaka in 24 hours in DMP drive

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 503 people from various areas of the capital over the past 24 hours. A large quantity of drugs, gold ornaments, mobile phones and stolen motorcycles were recovered during the operations. Police also rescued one kidnapped person.

DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi provided the information on Wednesday (July 29).

He said the arrests were made through joint operations by DMP's Crime Division and Detective Branch (DB) in various parts of the capital on Tuesday. Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 122 people detained. Additionally, 82 were arrested in Motijheel Division, 74 in Tejgaon Division, 69 in Uttara Division, 41 in Wari Division, 38 in Gulshan Division, 35 in Lalbagh Division, 34 in Ramna Division and 8 by the DB.

During the operations, police recovered 107 kg of cannabis, 25 pieces of yaba, gold ornaments weighing 8 bhori 13 anna 5 rati, 9 mobile phones and two old motorcycles from the arrestees. One kidnapped person was also rescued and safely returned, DMP said.
