506 held in 24-hour DMP drive in Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 506 people in the past 24 hours during regular operations across different parts of the capital.

A total of 55 cases were filed in connection with various incidents during the raids.

Police also recovered a range of items, including weapons, drugs, vehicles and stolen goods.

Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division, disclosed the information on Thursday (20 August).

He said the operations were conducted across different police station areas in Dhaka, resulting in the arrest of people allegedly involved in criminal activities and the recovery of various weapons and narcotics.

According to DMP figures, the Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 120. This was followed by Gulshan with 93, Wari with 65, Uttara with 63, Lalbagh with 45, Motijheel with 47, Tejgaon with 41 and Ramna with 25. A further seven people were arrested by the Detective Branch.

During the operations, police recovered two switchgear knives, including one specifically listed as a switchgear, 27kg 510g of cannabis, 231 yaba tablets and five grams of heroin.

Police also seized one bus, one truck, 17 motorcycles and eight mobile phones.

In addition, officers recovered 597.73 grams of gold jewellery, Tk 267,000 in stolen cash and 4 tolas, 15 annas and 5 ratis of stolen gold jewellery. Two victims were also rescued during the operations.

The DMP said such operations are being conducted regularly to control crime and maintain law and order in the capital. Further legal action is being taken in the respective cases concerning the arrested individuals and the recovered evidence.
