51 Bangladeshis arrested in Assam for illegal infiltration
Assamese police have arrested 51 Bangladeshi nationals in a crackdown on illegal infiltration in the northeastern state of Assam, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed this information in a post on X on Tuesday (August 26).
According to Sarma, 30 individuals, including women and children, were arrested from the Sribhumi border area on Sunday (August 24), followed by 21 more arrests on Tuesday (August 26).
Among those apprehended were six from South Salmara-Mankachar district, including two children aged one and three.
All arrested individuals have been sent back to Bangladesh with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF). “These illegal infiltrators are changing our demographic structure and violating the rights of the local community. They will be sent back to where they belong,” Sarma said.
Police said the Bangladeshis were intercepted while attempting to cross the border, and initial inquiries revealed they had recently entered India.
The state government has vowed to continue operations to prevent illegal entry from Bangladesh.
