534 arrested in Dhaka police drive in 24 hours
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 534 people in a 24-hour drive across the capital, while 69 cases were filed over various allegations, police said on Friday (September 4).
According to the DMP, the arrests included 32 in Ramna, 32 in Lalbagh, 41 in Wari, 64 in Motijheel, 83 in Tejgaon, 163 in Mirpur, 51 in Gulshan and 60 in Uttara.
The Detective Branch (DB) arrested seven people, while the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested one.
During the operation, police seized 5,383 yaba tablets and 46.9kg of cannabis from different parts of the capital. They also recovered a knife and an anti-cutter.
The seized items included five mobile phones, two handcuffs, a motorcycle, a private car, a microbus and Tk 200 in cash.
The DMP said the operation was part of its regular drives across different police station areas. Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals were underway, it said.
