560-bed specialized hospital planned in Rangpur: Health Adviser
Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum announced that the government will construct a 560-bed specialized hospital in Rangpur to treat kidney, cancer, and heart patients. The budget for the hospital has already been approved.
The project, with its budget already approved, is scheduled for implementation by the next government.
She made the announcement while addressing reporters after visiting Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday (August 23).
Nurjahan Begum said, "The new hospital is needed as the existing facility cannot accommodate the growing number of patients, many of whom currently receive treatment on the floor."
She said, "The government plans to procure hospital equipment through e-GP, aiming to reduce irregularities and dismantle syndicates in the healthcare sector."
"Efforts are also underway to recruit the necessary doctors, nurses, and technologists to ensure quality services at Rangpur Medical College Hospital and the new facility," she added.
Regarding the proposed Chinese-supported hospital, the Health Adviser said, "The site will be finalised with the involvement of the Chinese government and ambassador."
Nurjahan Begum also addressed delays in opening the Rangpur Mother and Child Hospital, citing the lack of manpower and equipment, and assured that steps will be taken to make it operational gradually.
During the visit, she inspected various departments of Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Taraganj Upazila Health Complex and will also visit the proposed hospital site at Darwani Textile Mill in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
